"L'enfer, c'est les autres", Sartre

Vanochtend hoorde ik op de Franse radio over een goed iniatief: het gratis beschikbaar stellen van een Franse krant aan gedetineerden. De man van de krant in kwestie, France-Ouest, als ik het goed heb, zei dat de uitspraak 'L'enfer, c'est les autres' (De hel, dat zijn de anderen) onwaar is. 'L'enfer, c'est le repli sur soi-même'. De hel is als je je terugtrekt, als je in je schulp kruipt. Het is heel belangrijk voor gedetineerden om toch in contact te staan met de buitenwereld.
De vergelijking loopt (uiteraard) mank, maar als alleenstaande thuiswerkmama voel ik me soms ook een beetje gevangen. Daarom is het een van mijn voornemens om ook in 2008 actief te blijven zoeken naar contact met de buitenwereld.

This morning I heard something on the French radio about a good initiative: making a French newspaper available to prisoners for free. The man in question, from France-Ouest, if I am not mistaken, said that the quote from Sartre "L'enfer, c'est les autres"(Hell=the others) is very untrue. "The hell, is shutting yourself off from the outside world". It is very important for prisoners to stay in touch with the outside world.
Of course, I am hardly a prisoner, far from it, but as a single work-at-home mum, I sometimes feel like one. Therefore one of my resolutions for the new year is to keep on actively seeking contact with the rest of the world in 2008 as well.
